Customize Your URL With Permalinks

On your website, you will notice the URL following your domain name will be a jumbled mess of seemingly random numbers and letters. This suffix to the domain name is called the Permalink.

“Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your individual weblog posts, as well as categories and other lists of weblog postings. A permalink is what another user will use to link to your page, or how you might send a link to your page in an e-mail message. The URL to each post should be permanent, and never change — hence permalink.” — WordPress Codex

Edit Your Permalinks
Changing your permalinks from their default setting will make remembering a link much easier and will cause your Pages and Posts to come up in Search Inquires much more often.

To change the Permalink structure go to Settings -> Permalinks from your Dashboard. You will then see a window that displays options for how you would like your permalink structure to be. We recommend you choose “Post name” to make URLs easy to remember. If you are going to be making new posts or pages frequently, choosing one of the date formats may be more appropriate. As the Administrator, you have the choice to change the structure to whichever option you prefer.
